This book is divided into eleven main sections, with a total of 121 chapters, and about 421 pages.
The story is is told chronologically, starting with a dramatic kidnapping that sets up some background events and motivation. The first section is “April 8”, which has seven chapters. The next section is “Monday: Five Weeks Later: May”; which covers the next six chapters. Then the rest of the parts are just titled by the day of the week: “Tuesday” has nine more chapters, then “Wednesday” with eight more chapters, etc.
There is a ton of high-stakes action and drama at the beginning of the book, as heroic Detective Billy Harney has extra personal motivation to catch a particularly bad criminal. Then the action slows down a bit, as new characters are added to the story and a deeper plot unfolds. We get pieces and details from different characters’ perspectives, and soon the story goes in some unexpected directions. It is a pretty long book, but the short chapters and good pacing made it seem to go by pretty quickly.
